Back in the Game: How Our Integrated Approach Helps with Sports Injuries
You’re racing across the soccer field, focused entirely on the game. But then your foot catches in a loose patch of grass, and you tip forward, wrenching your ankle sideways in the process. Finishing the game is out of the question, and all you can ask is: when will I be able to jump back in?
But there is good news. At Ace Physique, we blend physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and acupuncture to help you navigate the recovery and rehabilitation process and get back in the game stronger than ever.
Sports injuries are the bane of an athlete’s existence. Pain, stiffness, and loss of movement can quickly interrupt your training or fitness routine, keeping you sidelined for weeks or even months.

What You Need to Know About Sports Injuries
Sports injuries can affect muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. There are two main types:
Acute Injuries
These injuries occur as the result of a single, sudden event. They’re what most people think of when they hear “sports injury.” Examples include:
- Sprained ankles
- Muscle strains
- Dislocated shoulders
- Knee ligament tears (such as ACL injuries)
- Concussions
Overuse Injuries
These injuries develop gradually due to repetitive movements, awkward postures, or improper form. Symptoms will be mild at first, usually occurring during or immediately after activity. These types of injuries typically affect:
- Tendons (e.g., Achilles tendinitis)
- Muscles (e.g., shin splints)
- Joints (e.g., tennis elbow or runner’s knee)
It can be tempting to ignore overuse injuries. However, if left unaddressed, they can lead to more serious problems, including making you more susceptible to acute injuries.
Fortunately, our team can help address both types of injuries.

How The Team at Ace Physique Supports Recovery
Sports injuries can have a wide-ranging impact, affecting strength, movement, and general quality of life. Furthermore, every sports injury can affect people differently, making it important to craft personalized care plans.
Your sports injury rehab program will focus on addressing initial pain and mobility restrictions and helping you ensure good long-term outcomes, including a reduced injury risk.
Our multidisciplinary approach allows us to find the right treatment techniques for your unique needs. We’ll work with you to develop a customized program that pulls from several different methods, including the following:
Pain Management
- We offer several approaches to managing pain after an injury. For example, hands-on manual therapy techniques help mobilize the joints and reduce soft tissue restrictions so you can move more easily. More advanced techniques, such as shockwave therapy, dry needling, or laser therapy, can further manage pain and facilitate your body’s healing processes.
Physiotherapy
- Physiotherapy plays an important role in rehabilitating after a sports injury. Targeted exercises help rebuild strength and stability in the injured area, build resilience in your muscles and joints, and prevent future injuries. If your injury affects your lower body, we can help you restore proper walking or running patterns with a personalized gait training program. We might also incorporate postural training, prevention tips, and more.
Therapeutic Massage
- Massage plays a key role in addressing sports injuries by helping to improve blood flow, reduce muscle tightness and inflammation, and decrease pain.
Acupuncture
- Acupuncture is particularly useful for issues like tendon injuries, chronic muscle strain, and recurring pain. It involves inserting fine needles into key points throughout the body to activate the body’s natural pain-relief systems and enhance healing.
Chiropractic Adjustments
- This technique involves thrusting key joints (especially the spine) through their current range of motion, helping to realign and reduce tension in surrounding muscles, which can improve mobility and relieve pressure on nerves.
Kinesio Tape
- Kinesio tape supports injured muscles and joints without limiting movement, helping reduce swelling, improve circulation, and guide proper muscle activation during recovery.
Custom Orthotics
- If needed, we can provide you with custom-designed orthotics or specialty footwear to provide additional support to the injured area as you undergo treatment.
Functional Training
- Toward the end of your rehabilitation, we’ll work with you on sports-specific drills to prepare you for the exact movements your sport requires. We can also provide a personalized return-to-sports schedule so you can return to training and competition safely and efficiently.

Let’s Get You Back in the Game
No two injuries are exactly the same, and no two recovery plans should be either. At Ace Physique, our blend of physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and acupuncture can help you recover more efficiently and build lasting strength.

A Silent Injury
Why Concussions Often Go Undiagnosed and Untreated
Did you know that sometimes, people experience a concussion without even realizing it? Concussions are a relatively common sports injury that can occur after a direct blow to the head (or, in some cases, a whiplash-like movement that doesn’t involve contact).
However, the symptoms can often be subtle or delayed, and many people continue with their daily routine, unaware they’ve experienced a brain injury.
How Can People Miss a Concussion?
- Symptoms may not appear right away. Some people don’t feel the effects until hours or even days later.
- People assume that because there was no loss of consciousness, they must not have a concussion.
- People assume their concussion symptoms–including headaches, nausea, or brain fog–have some other cause, like dehydration or stress.
- Many believe concussions only happen with a blow to the head, but sudden shaking or whiplash can also cause brain injury.
- There’s pressure to “push through.” Athletes, in particular, might be tempted to hide their symptoms so they don’t miss out on a chance to play.
Signs You May Have a Concussion
Seek medical care if you notice any of the following after a head injury:
- Headache
- Dizziness or balance issues
- Nausea or vomiting
- Blurry vision or sensitivity to light
- Difficulty concentrating
- Memory problems
- Irritability or mood swings
- Sleep changes

MODIFIED PLANK
Who Should Do It: Suitable for individuals looking to strengthen their core and improve overall stability. Beginners can start with this modified version before progressing to a full plank.
Benefits: Strengthens core muscles, improves posture, and enhances overall stability and endurance.
How to Perform:
- Start on your hands and knees.
- Walk your hands forward slightly, positioning them just ahead of your shoulders.
- Lower your hips until your body forms a straight line from head to knees.
- Hold this position while engaging your core muscles. Ensure your back remains flat and avoid sagging or arching.
- Start with 2 to 3 sets, holding the modified plank for 20–30 seconds each. As your strength improves, gradually increase the hold time up to 45–60 seconds per set. Rest for 30–60 seconds between sets.
Precautions:
Stop If: You experience sharp pain or discomfort in your lower back, shoulders, or wrists.
Consult a Therapist: If pain persists or worsens, consult a physical therapist for personalized guidance.

Seasonal Tips

Seasonal Spotlight: Hydration & Muscle Health
June at Ace Physique
As summer ramps up, staying hydrated becomes even more essential—especially when it comes to preventing muscle cramps and fatigue.
When you’re dehydrated, your muscles don’t function at their best. This can lead to cramping, early fatigue, and a drop in performance. Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium are also lost through sweat, making it important to replenish both fluids and minerals.
Quick Hydration Tips:
- Drink water consistently throughout the day—not just during workouts.
- Eat electrolyte-rich foods like bananas, spinach, avocados, and yogurt.
- Sip fluids before, during, and after exercise.
At Ace Physique, we believe hydration is key to feeling strong, recovering faster, and getting the most out of your workouts. Drink up and stay active this summer!
